Web: http://onlyforwinds.pixnet.net/blog/post/30268908 Translation is usually a tough work, especially translate Chinese into English. Recently, I find an interesting translation about the modes of fist in Wuxia Novels. For example, it translates 太玄經 into “all fools’ daily” and 吸星大法 into “suck star over China”. These not only makes people burst into laugher but also indicate that Chinese culture can not easily spread out like western culture, because there are many meanings and backgrounds in Chinese words and phrases. Besides, the atmospheres Chinese want to convey tend to be too mysterious and hard to explain.
This kind of translation can only point out the literal meanings without further imagination. Majoring in foreign language, I can totally understand the difficulty in translating Wuxia Novels, but in another words, Wuxia Novels can also be said as an uncultivated field in literature; there is still a lot of space to develop.
